When Jane began her year as our Target® Iditarod Teacher on the Trail, she selected project and lesson ideas to share with classrooms around the world. One project she 'patched together' is the Common Thread Quilt Project. Jane developed this project last summer and enlisted schools outside Alaska who were willing create quilts to be sent to schools in Alaska. Each participating school created their quilt to provide a message of their choosing, teaching about their state or community, or special messages for students. The designs on the quilts represent a quilt of many learning environments and are incredible symbols of quality teaching lessons that connect content and standards aligned teaching to the theme of the race.
"My goal for The Common Thread Quilt Project is to "sew" together people from outside of Alaska with the school contacts along the northern route through a quilt gifting," said Jane.
46 quilts, made by students from 37 different teachers, from Japan and 16 states are headed to Alaska.
