The For Teachers section of the website will be bringing additional teaching ideas and race coverage to you throughout the race as well as year round. Check this section of the site often for valuable information as well as news updates designed especially to help you with your students.
Notice the menu items on the right side of this page. Clicking on those titles will take you to areas of the website and provide you with important details.
Click: Teacher on the Trail for lesson ideas. Jane's lessons provide many ways to connect your curriculum with the race. During the Iditarod, Jane will journal her experiences as she visits the checkpoints along the trail from Anchorage to Nome. Jane won't be mushing a team. She will be flying in a bush plane with the Iditarod Air Force and reporting all that she sees and experiences directly to you. Jane will also be visiting schools and teaching a lesson to students. Through Jane's Journal and the digital images she shares on line, you'll virtually experience the race. Join Jane on this adventure!
Click: Zuma's Paw Prints to read about the race from the viewpoint of K-9 reporters, a team led by Lead Dog Reporter, Zuma. Ask questions or leave comments in the comment section of the articles and become a part of a collaboration zone to enhance reading, writing, and general knowledge.
Click: Teaching Resources for musher tracking forms and other important resources. You'll also find information about "Iditarod Ready! Storm Ready!"- This is our weather related teaching curriculum. The materials include information about a collaboration zone you can join to discuss weather and climate in Alaska and in your own communities.
Click: Insider for Educators to learn about this teaching tool that provides lesson ideas and daily video clips during the race. If you haven't subscribed or need to renew, don't wait for the race to start to ensure you take full advantage of the lesson ideas, video library, fly by trail map, and the essential video segments to be added during the race.
Click: Educator Conferences to learn about the workshops held each year in February and in June. Be a part of this incredible experience, not just via Internet, but join us in Alaska! If you are headed to Alaska for this year's race, don't miss this opportunity. Many of our conference events are open to the general public. Find out more information today!
