Are you looking for a special project for your students? Get involved with 2008 Teacher on the Trail Jane Blaile's A Common Thread Quilt project.
"Through this project, school children and teachers in Alaska will see a hint of the extent to which the Iditarod reaches others. The quilt you will send is for them to "read", learn from, and enjoy as a connection to another place very far, but not always so very different from them. You and your students will enjoy the satisfaction of making a connection to a place full of wonder and beauty that you only read about in books and on the Internet and that you dream of visiting and watch ever so closely during the Iditarod. You will have a piece of yourselves in their school," said Jane.
Classrooms that register with Jane for this project create a quilt that is sent to an assigned school in Alaska. Don't worry, 'Teacher', you don't have to be a quilter to participate in this project, just be the teacher leader in a classroom that wants to share a part of their world with a school in Alaska. Jane has 'easy for any teacher' directions on how to create a classroom quilt. You can read the details of her project at the Teacher on the Trail section of the website.
Don't miss this opportunity to be a 'thread' that connects students from your school to Alaska.
