The next best thing to taking your students to Nome is sending a student made project from Anchorage to Nome. The student created project your class creates would be tucked in the sled as a part of the required gear the mushers carry during the race. Imagine the excitement when this project returns to your classroom after the race.
Be a part of the TRAIL MAIL project. For details, visit http://www.leaknomeak.com and click on Iditarod Trail Mail Educational Project.
"The School Class Project can go over the Iditarod National Historic Trail with a competing & participating Iditarod Trail Race Sled Dog Musher. Projects must be in the mail to me by Feb. 15th, 2008 to get them on the trail with a Musher. The number of participants has grown each year with several having participated since we began over 20 year ago and last year we had an entire School District in the race. We have a 2# limit per musher as they carry approximately 1# of other Merchandise too! Any school class can participate," said Leo Rasmussen, Nome, Alaska.
Don't just track the mushers this year, track your TRAIL MAIL! You will want to be a part of this awesome educational project! Check out the website and email Leo any questions you may have about this project. Brainstorm a project with your students and let the journey begin!
YOUR PROJECT NEEDS TO BE TO LEO BY MID FEB.
