Thinking of What's to Come
by Jane Blaile
What am I thinking now as I'm getting ready to go to Willow for the re-start?
- last night was my last sleeping in a bed for awhile
- my gear is packed and everything is in a set place so I can easily find it
- how cold it is really going to get
- will I hear my pilot's call to get to the airstrip
- will I be able to get my postings done
- will I be able to figure out the Internet situations
- where will I get to stop
- what kind of plane rides will I have
- my morning's shower was the last for awhile
- do I have enough warm clothes
- if I need something, will I be able to get it
- what kinds of foods will I get to experience
- what wild animals might I see
- when will I talk to my family again
- will the satellite phone work
And while this may sound very unsure, I am not anxious or truly worried at all - just planning it out in my mind and wondering, wild with excitement! I'm open to whatever experiences lie ahead of me and I will savor each minute as part of the 2008 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. I'm going into it with no agenda but to live it fully...breathe it, smell it, feel it, see it, hear it, taste it, make it part of me and add it to what makes me have an interesting life.
