Robert Bundtzen, 57, was born in North Dakota and spent his early childhood in New Mexico. He grew up in Anderson, Alaska where he used a small dog team for trapping. He graduated from UAF in 1971 with a BS in Biology and was one of the firt WAMI students at UAF/U. OF WA Medical School. He returned to Anchorage in 1984 after training and established a consultation Infectious Disease practice. Jim Lanier, another doctor and Iditarod musher, encouraged Robert to begin competitive mushing in the early 90's and he has been mushing ever since. His wife Joan has been his constant and enthusiastic fan and in recent years, Bryan Bearrs, Zach Steer and Kathy Farinyarz have been essential support. |
