2008 Iditarod Musher Profile

Ramey Smyth, 32, was born in Alaska, the son of Iditarod veterans Bud Smyth and the late Lolly Medley. He says he's been mushing since he was a young child. He ran the Jr. Iditarod three or four times and ran his first Iditarod in 1994 and has only skipped one year since. He is a log builder and says his hobbies are "hunting, reading, soccer and helping friends and family. Ramey says, "I am entering the Iditarod to either win or gain experience I can use to win. I love to run sled dogs and am a dog lover in general. My wife, Rebecca, and I just had a daughter and this has brought great competitive focus to my efforts. I feel honored to have the privilege of competing in a race like the Iditarod." Their baby, Ava, will be a year old in November.
