Iditarod Musher Profile

John Stewart, 24, was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland. He started running dogs in 1991 and has been thinking about running the Iditarod ever since he first heard about it. He was a Scottish and British junior sprint champion and has raced in South America as well as in Canada, Alaska and the Lower 48. He says, "I've been racing dogs 18 years and competed all over the world in various styles of racing." He has handled for and trained and raced with Egil Ellis and Hans Gatt and most recently with Doug Swingley. "Competing in the Iditarod is a dream come true, having a chance to be up against the best distance dog mushers in the world." He thanks his parents and sponsors for supporting him. A commercial diver for the last two years, he says he is working to help fund his ambition to compete in the Iditarod. He says he enjoys diving, rock climbing, cars and music.
