Jeff Deeter, 21, was born in Seattle and grew up all over Alaska. When he was 10, the family moved to Alaska to pursue the sport of mushing. They moved around the State following his mom, who was an elementary teacher. He actually began mushing in 2003 with his friend and mentor, Frank Sihler and ran the Jr. Iditarod twice. He ran his first Iditarod in 2008 with a team he had acquired and raised during his mushing career. Last year, Jeff took a year off mushing to attend UAF with an emphasis in history, but is back to race the 2010 Iditarod with the "generous help of a few friends and sponsors." "I plan on making it to Nome with a healthy and happy dog team. My parents, Eric and Gretchen, and friends Frank and Claudia, have been huge supporter. Thanks! Also, I would like to thank Scott Smith and Warm Springs Kennels. Jeff says he enjoys hiking, biking, Alaskan History, reading and hunting. Learn more at Jeff’s website: www.jeffdeeter.com |
