Sigrid Ekran, 28, was born in Sparbu, Norway. At age 19, she spent two years working with wolves at Langedrag Farm and Nature Park in Norway, studying behaviour and pack dynamics. Sigrid came to Alaska in 2003 as an exchange student in wildlife biology at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF). She holds a Bachelor degree in Conservation Management, and a MA degree in Northern Studies. Sigrid has since 2004 assisted Team Norway with preparing their Iditarod food-drops. In 2005, she worked as a handler for Susan Butcher. Sigrid raced her first Iditarod in 2007, finishing 20th as Rookie of the Year. Following the 2008 Iditarod, she spent 62 days on a dogsled expedition to Arctic Canada as a member of polar explorer Will Steger´s international 2008 Ellesmere Expedition-team to raise awareness about global warming.
