Hans Gatt, 49 was born in Austria. He says that after seeing his first sled dog race in 1988 in Austria, it became clear to him that he wanted to be a dog musher. Soon after making this decision and winning a number of events in Europe, Gatt moved to Atlin to train and take care of his dogs. In 2002, after winning the Yukon Quest, he ran the Iditarod, something, which very few have attempted. He won the Quest again in 2003 and 2004, making him then the only three time winner of the Yukon Quest. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as running, mountain biking, canoeing and skiing. In the summer he combines these activities to compete in adventure races, grueling multi-discipline races that can last up to one week.
