ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - (March 6, 2008)

IDITAROD XXXVI Musher Dee Dee Jonrowe (Bib #39) was the first to arrive in the small mining camp of Cripple Alaska.  The Willow Alaska musher reached the once gold rich mining camp at 06:22 this morning (Thursday) with 14 dogs.  The Cripple Checkpoint signifies the halfway point in this "Last Great Race to Nome."

Jonrowe's dash from Ophir to Cripple (the longest distance between two checkpoints on the Iditarod Trail) netted her the GCI Dorothy Page Halfway Award as well as $3,000 in placer gold nuggets, courtesy of Iditarod Presenting Sponsor GCI. Tami Sommerville, Senior Customer Service Supervisor for GCI was on hand to present the Halfway Award and the gold!

At age 54 Jonrowe has been running the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race since 1980.  She holds the fastest time ever recorded by a female musher, and has garnered thirteen top ten finishes.

The GCI Dorothy Page Halfway Award will be re-presented to Jonrowe in Nome on Sunday, March 16th, during the Iditarod Awards Banquet at the Nome Recreation Center.
