TARGET BECOMES SPONSOR OF IDITAROD'S TEACHER ON THE TRAIL PROGRAM
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - (February 25, 2008) - The Iditarod Trail Committee is proud to announce that the 2008 Iditarod Trail Teacher on the Trail Program is now sponsored by Target. Both Target and The Iditarod Trail Committee have a very long tradition of educational outreach in the United States. This partnership between the Iditarod and Target will help to provide even greater opportunities for classrooms across the country to connect to "The Last Great Race on Earth."
"The Teacher on the Trail program is one of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race's most important programs because it brings children across the nation a little closer to a learning experience that, at its core, values the very special bond between the human and the canine. Kids understand the connection and teachers do too" said Stan Hooley, Executive Director of the Iditarod Trail Committee.
The 2008 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail, Jane Blaile, represents a decade of Teachers on the Trail who have traveled from checkpoint to checkpoint building lesson plans "on the fly" and sharing their real time experiences, both culturally and educationally, from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. Jane is a 5th grade lead teacher focusing on the areas of science and social studies at Christ Lutheran School in Phoenix, Arizona.
"Target is committed to providing educational support for America's schools and teachers," said Laysha Ward, vice president, community relations, Target. "Through our partnership with Jane and the Iditarod's Teacher on the Trail program, we're able to keep students engaged in learning and be a part of a unique event that commemorates the spirit of Alaska."
"Target's synergistic approach toward their Iditarod Teacher on The Trail sponsorship has been wonderful. It's gratifying to see how committed they are to education nationwide and in the State of Alaska," added Hooley.
