A Salute to ExxonMobil's "Iditarod Wall of Fame"

Since 1983, the Iditarod Trail Committee has recognized its Sponsors by giving them a Special Edition framed photograph taken by Iditarod Official Photographer Jeff Schultz. This framed photo is referred to as the Sponsor Appreciation Award. The first one depicted Joe Redington, Sr., the "Father of the Iditarod," mushing a team of dogs with Mt. McKinley (Denali) in the background, with Joe's signature on the photograph. Each successive year the chosen photo depicted the current Champion, and all were personalized by the musher's signature.

While The Iditarod is extremely proud of the fact that most of our sponsors have been with us an average of 15 years, only seven sponsors can lay claim to owning all 26 of these Sponsor Appreciation Awards. And only one sponsor, ExxonMobil, has them all displayed on a single wall at their Anchorage Headquarters (Craig Haymes, Alaska Production Manager, in front of the "Iditarod Wall of Fame" above). This display is a fitting tribute to ExxonMobil's 30-year sponsorship of "The Last Great Race on Earth." Iditarod is honored to have been chosen as the focal point of ExxonMobil's community involvement in Alaska.
