The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is well on its way to staging the largest field of marathon competitors in the 36-year history of "The Last Great Race on Earth." Eighty-seven mushers started the race back in 2004 — as of today, more than 100 mushers have entered!
2007 Iditarod Champion, Lance Mackey, will be back on the runners again this year. Mackey will be joined on the Northern Route of The Iditarod Trail by Mitch Seavey, four-time Iditarod Champions Martin Buser and Jeff King, and five-time Iditarod Champion Rick Swenson.
By the way, back in 2002 Martin Buser shattered the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race record by reaching Nome in 8 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes, and 2 seconds. It promises to be a great race!
Opportunities are still available for the 2008 Educators Winter Conference. If you plan on being in Anchorage for the start of the race, don't miss the chance to attend the February 29 speaker events held in conjunction with the Iditarod Teacher's Conference.
