Mackey in Wasilla Tomorrow

Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race 2007 Champion, Lance Mackey, will be the guest speaker at the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce tomorrow (March 27, 2007) at 12pm Alaska time. Mackey, fresh off of his historic win, will talk about winning the “Last Great Race on Earth” right after winning the Yukon Quest.

In a recent interview with “Iditarod Insider,” Mackey talked about the (not-so-secret) secret to his unbelievable success.

“My success is not about any interesting innovations, any new technologies, or any training practices that set me apart from the rest of the field. My success is a result of my team’s success. My dogs are the ones who set the standards. They, each of them individually, came together as one team and they accomplished something that is very special. I helped keep them on the right trail, I helped keep them warm, I helped keep them nourished; they kept their focus and I can’t help but believe that intuitively they knew exactly what they were doing, they knew exactly what kind of history they were making.”

Mackey will join other Iditarod 2007 mushers at tomorrow’s salute to the men and women (and their teams) that set off to reach their “Iditarod Dream.” The luncheon will be held at the Best Western Lake Lucille Inn in Wasilla, Alaska.
