The first group of Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race canine athletes arrived in Anchorage early this afternoon, after being dropped off at Yentna and Skwentna. Chief Race Veterinarian, Dr. Stu Nelson commented that after day one the field of canine athletes looks strong.
We havent seen any major problems arise thus far, and the majority of the teams are running at a very good pace. said Nelson. One major contributing factor is the time of the restart. The teams started at 2pm AST. This gave them the opportunity to get out on the trail while the temperatures were dropping, providing a better environment for the athletes to run.
