Live Television Coverage for Alaskans

KAKM TV in Anchorage will carry the Saturday, March 4th Start from 9AM to 1:30PM, live from downtown Anchorage.

For many years, the Alaska Public Radio Network has broadcast coverage of the Iditarod on public radio stations throughout Alaska. This year, public television stations across the state join APRN in providing comprehensive start to finish coverage. In cooperation with the Iditarod Trail Committee, KAKM TV in Anchorage has agreed to carry the Saturday, March 4th Ceremonial start from 9AM to 1:30PM, live from downtown Anchorage. KAKM TV serves the Anchorage, Kenai and Matanuska Boroughs and provides public television to nearly ½ the state’s population. In addition, Alaska One Television with public TV stations in Bethel, Juneau and Fairbanks, will provide the same programming and, along with ARCS (The Alaska Rural Communications Service) will bring the race to just about every citizen of Alaska.

KAKM and the Alaska One stations work cooperatively to provide public television service in Alaska and are proud to be able to be a part of the great tradition of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. This is a first for public television and we are happy to bring the race start to more than 90% of Alaska residents.

In addition to the race start, KAKM, Alaska One and ARCS will also carry the live finish of the race from Nome. Of course the exact time and date will be determined as the race progresses but once again more than 90% of Alaskans will have the chance to watch as the winner brings his or her sled under the arches in Nome.
