Mushers and volunteers together again at the home of the Iditarod, Wasilla Alaska. That can mean only one thing: the 2006 Iditarod Volunteer Picnic is rapidly approaching. This annual migration of The Last Great Races Greatest Fans will converge on Wasilla on Saturday, June 24th for a day of fun and frivolity at the campus of the Iditarod Headquarters.
This one fun day for the volunteers and fans begins at 12 noon, but it combines a lot of other very important business. The Iditarod Trail Committee Board of Directors will convene at the headquarters for its annual membership meeting. On top of that the 2007 Board of Directors will be announced, and then later in the day the new board will conduct its first order of business for the 2007 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
By 2pm the business should be over, and the most ultra competitive field of two legged athletes will begin signing up for Iditarod XXXV. Thats when the real fun begins. Mushers, volunteers and a bunch of other race fans young and old will spend the afternoon reminiscing about those 45 below zero nights in Cripple, and all the close calls that make the Last Great Race so special.
This years picnic is being catered by the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Races Headquarters in Anchorage; The Millennium Alaskan Hotel. Be prepared to sample a veritable potpourri of culinary cuisine.
There are all kinds of great prizes, games for the kids, and a fun filled scavenger hunt! Make it a point to be a part of this years celebration for our most valuable team players our volunteers!
See you there!
