Honorary Mushers

Leonhard Seppala, was famous in mushing circles in Alaska and therefore it only seemed right to name him as the first honorary musher. He was the only honorary musher named for the first seven years of the race. At that time, it was decided to honor other some of the other well known mushers in Alaska, mushers who were deceased were added and non mushers who had been involved in making the Iditarod what it is today. Below is a list of those honorary 'mushers.'
